7 days before the official launch of the fourth chapter of Uncharted, Garage Italia Customs and Jeep Switzerland, in collaboration with Sony Playstation Switzerland, pay tribute to the famous videogame saga. They do so with an extraordinary show car which combines the wrap-paint technique to the application of special thermochromic paint.

“Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” is indeed one of the most awaited games of 2016 and it will almost certainly put an end to one of the most loved series by PlayStation players. The main theme in every chapter has always been adventure and the search for hidden treasures not to be found on common maps. A map, in fact, inspired the Garage Italia Customs Style Centre in the making of the Renegade Uncharted Edition show car. To be precise, it was the antique map of the African continent in the official trailer of the game.

After getting the original picture from the developers of the game, Naughty Dog studios, the Garage Italia Customs team created a tailor-made film which was used to cover the Jeep Renegade bodywork entirely.

The Maestros of Lapo Elkann’s creative hub wanted to add a “wow factor” that would make the difference in every personalisation. So this is what they did with the wrapping, which was already very particular. It reproduced all the graphic elements of an antique parchment in detail, showing the main character Nathan Drake the way to the pirate colony of Libertalia.

Using the wrap-paint technique, the artisans of Garage Italia Customs applied an innovative black thermochromic paint to darken the appearance of the entire surface of the map. As the temperature rises, the paint gradually becomes more transparent until it totally disappears when it reaches 30 °C.

Vice versa, when the temperature drops, the Jeep Renegade turns back to black.

The resulting livery thus has a strong playful component, conveying the same mystery and exploration feel evoked by the videogame. The car in fact presents itself as simple opaque black. In reality, it hides a secret! As the temperature rises, the bodywork magically shows the treasure map.

The many references to the videogame saga continue also inside the car. For example, using a special procedure, the same map was printed on the Nabuk Foglizzo leather and covers all of the dashboard; the motto of the Libertalia pirates, “For God and Liberty”, is embroidered on the cordura technical textile covering the handle in front of the passenger seat.

The mood of the personalisation of the interiors has the same charm of objects that have been used and worn out by time. It inspires adventure and this is why the dark-brown cordura technical fabric was chosen to match the beige distressed Foglizzo leather for the upholstery of the trim.

The main aim of Garage Italia Customs is to place its clients and their creative requirements back “in the spotlight”, in a world that has been more and more standardised and where number prevails over subjectivity. Just as a tailor-made outfit follows the lines of the body harmoniously, Garage Italia Customs aims at making any vehicle unique, be it a car, a motorbike, a plane, a helicopter or a yacht. It re-elaborates the clients’ very wishes with a tailor-made service that involves the study of detail, balance of the components and research of materials. The équipe working at Garage Italia Customs is made up of the team that created the Tailor Made service for Ferrari and the best technicians specialised in the automotive sector, specifically in the field of wrapping, painting and upholstery of interiors. They are the “Maestros”, as Lapo Elkann himself defines them, and their unique skills are of absolute excellence in this work. The “Maestros” are backed up by the Style Centre, which is the pulsating heart of all the activities. It is a meeting place for the design team, where the ideas and dreams of clients intersect with the aesthetic taste of the experts of the Garage. Here, the abstract concepts are elaborated into digital images by use of the most modern technologies. The clients are guided in the choice of the right chromatic combinations and the most refined materials; their taste and needs are respected.
